For the last few years, I have started off my school year with the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It is the perfect book for the beginning of the year because it is truly engaging, and opens students up to understanding and accepting the differences of others. It covers important themes, such as friendship, kindness, and acceptance. It's the type of book that will have students laughing and crying, and one that they will not want you to stop reading!!

I am excited to share the picture book, We're All Wonders with my kiddos when we get back from Spring Break!! This will give us the perfect opportunity to revisit the themes and character traits that molded our first weeks of school. When we get back from Spring Break, I plan to share this book with my class right away!! They're going to be so excited. (That is unless they picked up a copy of their own over break!!)

After discussing the story and making connections to the novel, I plan to have them do a little writing about what makes them different and unique, and what they think makes them a "wonder". I also would like to have them write about what they can do to change the way they see others...
